My Treatment Approach and Philosophy
-
I work within the Trauma–informed principles of safety, trust, collaboration, choice and empowerment. I aim not only to support recovery but also the building of a healthy life.
-
As a psychiatric nurse I have years of training, experience and an in-depth understanding of mental health. This enables me to understand how CBT can be most effectively applied to help you understand your problem and achieve your goals.
-
I provide a full mental health assessment of your problem before I make any recommendations for therapy.
-
If we agree therapy could be helpful for you, we will have regular reviews to ensure we continue to work towards your goals and are making the best use of your therapy time.
-
My aim is to equip you to become your own therapist and to provide you with the knowledge and understanding to continue to work on your well being and quality of life long after the end of your treatment.
-
Having worked in Liaison Psychiatry service in the NHS I understand how both physical illness and treatment can have a significant impact on mental health and wellbeing. I employ the bio-psychosocial model of working with psychological problems caused by or effecting the management of physical health.
-
By being BABCP accredited you can be sure I have both professional mental health training and that I meet their high standards of training and experience in CBT including clinical practice, supervision and continuing professional development. (BABCP find a therapist page link)
-
I am member of the UKPTS and ESTSS and have attended their specialist trauma training to the level of psychotraumatologist. So I understanding that trauma can affect people in many different ways. Trauma involves threat or danger but may also include breaches of trust, lack of control, powerlessness, and coercion.
